Here at mySugr we are always looking at ways to help our clients and their employees better engage in effective diabetes management and we know that true success is more than just monitoring glucose levels.
Most adults with diabetes have at least one comorbid chronic disease and as many as 40% have at least three, according to the ADA.This level of management can be overwhelming in the face of daily life and we want to help reduce the stress of day-to-day management. In order to help do this, we’ve introduced some new tools to help look at other factors that affect the health of people with diabetes, such as blood pressure and weight.
How did we decide where to start? We took a look at the numbers to better understand where we could have the most impact.
Factors that affect those living with diabetes
2 in 3 people living with diabetes report having high blood pressure (ADA)
85% of people living with diabetes have type 2 diabetes and of those, 90% are overweight or obese. (WHO)
Adults with diabetes are 2 to 4 times more likely to die from heart disease than adults without diabetes, according to The American Heart Association.
While these numbers offer a bleak outlook, there is reason for optimism. Research has shown that losing just 5-10% of one’s initial body weight reduces heart disease risk factors in overweight and obese patients with type 2 diabetes.
So what does this mean for you and your employees?
Because we recognize the importance of managing both weight and blood pressure when it comes to improving health outcomes for people with diabetes, we are excited to announce that we have partnered with A&D Medical to implement their blood pressure monitor and weight scale into the mySugr Integrated Diabetes Management solution. This means that data collected by both the blood pressure monitor and the weight scale is imported seamlessly into the mySugr application, enabling both program participants and our coaches to view all data in one place. What’s even better than the integration itself is how thrilled our initial beta testers were with the solution!
Of our 38 beta testers...
100% responded that having a digital scale that imports weight directly into the mySugr app would help them live better with diabetes.
Over 85% of respondents stated that they feel more motivated to reach their weight goal due to the integration.
And over 86% stated that connecting the devices was ‘easy’.
We are very excited to be able to offer our clients and their employees a new integrated solution with new high quality, easy-to-use tools for diabetes management. If you haven’t already, check out our new video that highlights our new blood pressure monitor here.
