3 Ways to Boost Motivation in the mySugr App

Diabetes doesn’t need to be a drag! At mySugr, we want you to add some fun to your management routine. There are some wonderful resources within the app that help keep you motivated to tame the diabetes monster. Keep on reading to find out more…

Logging Data Sucks?

Keeping a logbook is one of the many simple solutions that can improve your diabetes management and therefore, your peace of mind.  If you're paying more attention, you're keeping track of things, and you're getting subtle feedback just from seeing the information you track. mySugr can help make logging less of a chore and keep you motivated throughout your diabetes journey. Sound like a plan?

Regular logging can help you gain a better understanding of your diabetes, meaning that improved blood sugars and HbA1c may be on the horizon. We understand that diabetes can affect the mind as well as the body.³ Think of logging as a self-care method. It’s a little thing you can do every day, that will make a big difference, not only to your diabetes, but to your mental health. Logging puts you in the driver's seat, and you can feel great about yourself, putting in that extra bit of effort for better diabetes management.

“But how do I stay motivated when it comes to logging my data?”

We hear you ask. Don’t worry. Here’s how we support you…

1. Challenges

mySugr app challenges help you sprinkle a little bit of joy on your daily diabetes routine. We can all use a little extra encouragement from time to time, and the mySugr challenges provide just that. Challenges can help you become more engaged with a range of activities, from daily logging and workouts to blood sugar checks.

Keep on reading to discover the wonderful world of mySugr app challenges.

Data Logging? Challenge Accepted!

Forgot to log your diabetes data today? Don’t worry. We get it. With all the craziness of daily life, it’s natural to forget entering a logbook entry from time to time. The mySugr challenges will help you get going again.

Greenhorn

For newbie loggers, there are great challenges like “Greenhorn.” “Greenhorn” rewards you with 50 points each day you enter your diabetes data in the mySugr app. This challenge eases you in gently and rewards you for getting started, just what you need when it comes to building a diabetes routine.

Getting Active? Challenge Accepted!

Let’s face it, diabetes or no diabetes, finding the motivation to work out can be tricky. Let the mySugr challenges give you that extra boost, so you can get up off the couch and get moving

Sweat it

“Sweat it” is a great challenge that gets you moving. Users have one week to log an activity lasting at least one hour on three different days.

The mySugr app challenges are like having your very own personal trainer in your pocket. So download the app and let’s get going!

Keeping Blood Sugar in Range? Challenge Accepted!

No Hitter

Keeping your blood sugar in range can be a crazy ride. Let challenges like “No Hitter” keep you motivated. Test your blood sugar at least three times in 12 hours and log diligently. Keep your blood sugar in your target range and you’ll beat the challenge!

Blood and Breakfast

Challenges like “Blood and Breakfast” will help you learn from your diabetes data, so you can keep those blood sugars in check in future. “Blood and Breakfast” gets you to do a blood sugar check along with your morning meal (don’t forget the breakfast tag!) and then another check a couple of hours later, helping you learn where your post-breakfast blood sugar belongs.

2. Collecting Points for Each Log Entry

Now, don’t say we never give you anything. All that logging you’re doing deserves a reward. That’s why the mySugr app allows you to collect points every day. You get points for each action you take to care for yourself.

Let’s break it down. In the mySugr app, you get 1 Point for things like Tags, extra pics, pills, notes, and meal tags. 2 Points for meal entry, location, description of meal, blood pressure, the list goes on! And 3 Points for uploading your first pic, activity, activity description…

Collecting points in the app gives you a real sense of achievement. Everything you enter earns you some recognition in the form of points. The goal is to hit 50 points per day and tame your monster!

Make it your mission to beat your points from the day before. Think you’ll hit a high score today? Get to it!

3. Your Very Own Monster

The mySugr App also provides you with your very own giggling diabetes Monster. You can name your Monster whatever you like (in your profile settings)! Your Monster will react to every log entry with a comment or sound, adding a little bit of fun to your diabetes management. If your Monster gets too noisy you can always turn the sounds off, you are the Monster Tamer after all! ;)
